And now, a Photoshopped image of a road sign someone sent me a while ago that I find quite funny:
I can dream, can’t I?
As for funny road signs in real life, perhaps the most unintentionally hilarious ones ever made were the welcome signs Pennsylvania had back in the days when the state’s tourism department slogan was, “America Starts Here.” The slogan itself made sense, since the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were both drafted in Philadelphia, which served as the country’s first capital.
However, Pennsylvania put that slogan on its highway welcome signs at the border. When I was 15 I flew into Newark, New Jersey’s airport from Germany, and then rode a bus across northern New Jersey until getting to the Delaware River and crossing into neighboring Pennsylvania, at which point I was greeted by a “Welcome to Pennsylvania: America Starts Here” sign. You can make any number of jokes about northern New Jersey. All the same, people in the states bordering Pennsylvania were not particularly happy about those signs.
