It looks like I was wrong. The Phillies did not do the choking this time around, and they took full advantage of the Mets’ epic collapse. As a result, there is now a 50% chance that either the Philadelphia Phillies or the Chicago Cubs will wind up representing the National League in the World Series this year. Each team has won its respective division, with the historically hapless Phillies somehow taking the NL East crown and the almost as historically hapless Cubs somehow taking the NL Central title.
This can mean only one thing: something has gone catastrophically wrong with the universe. Whatever it is that’s malfunctioned, I like it.
